DELHI: As a western disturbance moves eastward, northern India is bracing for a return of colder weather beginning February 11. Weather observations indicate that cold winds will pick up strength across the plains, resulting in a drop in minimum temperatures. States such as Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and northern Madhya Pradesh are expected to feel the effects, with cooler nights and early mornings anticipated in the coming days.

"Despite the dip in nighttime temperatures, daytime conditions across northern and central India are expected to remain bright and sunny, with clear skies dominating most regions," stated Devendra Tripathi, founder of Mausam Tak. Meteorologists suggest that while the chill will return, daytime temperatures are likely to remain comfortable due to stable sunshine.

Cloud cover will be minimal across the plains, although some areas in Kashmir and Ladakh may see lingering clouds. The Indo-Gangetic plains, which stretch from Rajasthan in the west to Bihar in the east, will experience strong sunshine paired with cool northerly winds, making the daytime pleasant.

In the broader weather picture, a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal may influence wind patterns in southern peninsular India but is not expected to bring immediate significant changes to the mainland. Light cloud cover may develop, affecting parts of South India in the upcoming days, while most regions will remain largely clear and dry.

The return of cold winds signifies a typical late-winter transition for India, characterized by chilly mornings in the north and mild conditions in the daytime. As wind speeds across the peninsula increase, minor cloudiness may occur, but rainfall is unlikely in the short term. Overall, stable and dry weather patterns are expected to dominate much of India for the next few days, with a return to familiar winter conditions in the north.
