CHENNAI: The DMDK, under the leadership of Premalatha Vijayakanth, has officially aligned with the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) just ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections. This strategic alliance is seen as a significant development in the state's political landscape, aimed at fostering social justice and democratic values that resonate with the expectations of the Tamil electorate.

The announcement received praise from various political figures within the alliance. K Selvaperunthagai, president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, expressed optimism about the partnership, predicting it will amplify efforts to address social justice issues in the region. "This alliance is a pathway to fulfill the aspirations of Tamil people," he stated, emphasizing the importance of unity among progressive forces.

MDMK leader Vaiko also celebrated the move, highlighting its potential to strengthen the SPA ahead of the elections. However, not all responses were positive. The regional Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies voiced disappointment, reminding the public of the legacy of DMDK's late founder Vijayakanth, who famously refrained from aligning with the DMK.
