Modi Assures Gen Z Support for BJP at Malda Rally

MALDA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi rallied support for the BJP in West Bengal, targeting Gen Z's faith in the party's development model. He criticized the Trinamool Congress for alleged illegal infiltration and violence, promising safety for refugees. Modi asserted that the BJP is poised for success in the upcoming assembly elections.

MALDA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a vibrant rally in Malda, West Bengal, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, expressing confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) development model, particularly among the younger Generation Z. "People of India, especially Gen Z, have reposed faith in the BJP's development model," he stated, emphasizing the importance of robust governance.

The Prime Minister did not hold back in his criticism of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of fostering large-scale infiltration that has altered the state’s demography and led to increasing violence in regions like Malda and Murshidabad. He claimed that the so-called “syndicate raj” of the TMC is benefiting infiltrators, stating, "Infiltration is a very big challenge before Bengal,” while drawing parallels with international responses to illegal migration.

Mr. Modi reassured local refugees, particularly the Matuas who fled religious persecution, emphasizing their safety and right to remain in India. "You need not worry," he said, clearly aiming to calm fears amid rising tensions surrounding the controversial Special Intensive Revision exercise.

While celebrating recent infrastructural achievements, such as the introduction of the first Vande Bharat sleeper train to Bengal, Modi pushed for the BJP’s ascendancy in the upcoming elections. "Bengal’s development will happen only when the TMC is defeated, and the BJP comes to power," he declared. He painted a vision of a better future for the state, highlighting the urgency of addressing public welfare needs like housing and access to clean drinking water.

Emphasizing governance, Modi claimed that West Bengal, surrounded by BJP-led states demonstrating good governance, was at a turning point. "Now it is Bengal's turn,” he stated, suggesting a pivotal moment in the political landscape of the state. The Prime Minister's rhetoric was aimed not only at political opponents but also at mobilizing support for the BJP's campaign, declaring that the TMC's “hooliganism” and aggressive political tactics would soon be defeated.

As the political landscape shifts, Modi’s speech marks a renewed engagement with young voters, critical for the BJP's strategy in the region and a forecast hinting at significant changes ahead for West Bengal politics.
