CHENNAI: The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is poised to announce its support for C. Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as efforts to form a new government in Tamil Nadu gain momentum. After discussions with outgoing Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M.K. Stalin on May 8, 2026, VCK leaders are preparing to make a formal declaration maintaining that a letter of support will be submitted to the Governor shortly.
Sources indicate that VCK's state Legislature Party leader, Vanniarasu, is currently en route to Chennai to finalize this support letter, with another VCK MLA, L. E. Jothimani, also expected to prepend his signature. "Discussions were lengthy last night as we explored the best approach to supporting Mr. Vijay. We believe a common minimum programme should be developed rather than offering unconditional backing," noted a senior VCK member.
In the backdrop of these discussions, Thol Thirumavalavan, the VCK president, had previously met with M.K. Stalin, underscoring the VCK's integral position within the DMK alliance. Sources close to the situation highlight the necessity of this courtesy meeting, considering the political alliances at play in the state.
Furthermore, TVK leader Adhav Arjuna met with Thirumavalavan on the same day, seeking the party's crucial support. As negotiations unfold, citizens are keenly watching the developments, anticipating whether this alliance will stabilize the political landscape in Tamil Nadu while hoping for effective governance in the upcoming administration.
