DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to announce its new national president on January 20, with party insiders suggesting that Nitin Nabin, the current national working president, is the front-runner for the position. Nominations for the coveted post are to be submitted a day earlier, on January 19.

Nitin Nabin, a five-time Member of the Legislative Assembly from Bihar, was appointed as the party's national working president on December 14 last year. His rise is seen as a strategic move to signal a generational shift within the ruling party, indicating the BJP’s readiness to embrace a new wave of leadership. A likely candidate to file his nomination next week, sources within the party indicate he may be elected unopposed amid a lack of contenders.

The 45-year-old political figure is not only seen as a powerful leader within party ranks but is also the son of the late veteran BJP politician, Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. Nabin has gained respect within the party for his deep ideological roots and strong connections to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP's ideological parent.

He represents the Bankipur assembly constituency and has held ministerial roles in the Bihar government, further establishing himself as a significant player in regional politics. The announcement will be made by BJP chief election officer K Lakshman, who is expected to confirm Nabin's succession, backed by the signatures of over 20 elected state BJP presidents and endorsements from influential leaders including Prime Minister Modi and outgoing party president JP Nadda.
