NEW DELHI: The Indian government has affirmed its growing military prowess with the successful test of an advanced Agni missile featuring Multiple Independently-targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. Conducted on May 8 at the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha, this flight trial showcases India's ability to target multiple strategic locations using a single missile system.

The test involved a missile equipped with multiple payloads intended for different targets dispersed over a substantial geographical area in the Indian Ocean Region. According to the Defence Ministry, tracking and telemetry during the trial were facilitated by several ground and ship-based stations, which observed the missile's trajectory from launch to the precise impact of its payloads. The mission objectives were successfully met, confirming the technical proficiency of the advanced system.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed commendation for the efforts of the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), stating that this trial enhances India’s defence readiness against emerging regional threats. "This incredible capability significantly strengthens our national security," Singh remarked.

Developed by the DRDO, which collaborates closely with various industries across India, the successful flight trial highlights the country's growing indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. Witnessed by senior DRDO scientists and Indian Army personnel, this milestone reflects India's commitment to fortifying its defence architecture amid rising global tensions.
