MUMBAI: A significant controversy has erupted during Maharashtra's civic elections as viral videos circulate, depicting voters allegedly using Acetone to erase indelible ink from their fingers after casting their ballots. The videos, which have gone viral on social media, have prompted Maharashtra State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare to launch a serious investigation into the authenticity of these claims, urging citizens to be wary of misinformation.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has categorically dismissed allegations that the indelible ink can be easily wiped off, asserting that the ink's composition and application procedures adhere to established standards. "The integrity of the voting process must be maintained. The indelible ink is designed to remain for a substantial period, ensuring the credibility of our elections," a BMC spokesperson stated. Despite their reassurances, issues concerning election management persist, notably regarding missing names from voter lists and various technical glitches.

Adding to the electoral chaos, state minister Ganesh Naik faced embarrassment when he mistakenly visited the wrong polling booth. Reports of voters not finding their names on official lists further fuel criticism concerning the competency of the election management process.
