Bengaluru: Heavy rain and strong winds lashed Bengaluru on Wednesday evening, leaving 10 people dead and causing widespread disruption across the city.

What started as relief from the summer heat quickly turned dangerous, with wall collapses, fallen trees, flooded roads, and long traffic jams reported from many areas.

The most tragic incident was reported near Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital in Shivajinagar, where a compound wall collapsed during the heavy rain.

According to officials, seven people died on the spot, including women and children, while several others suffered injuries.

Police said some people had taken shelter near the wall to escape the rain when the structure suddenly gave way.

In separate incidents linked to the storm, including electrocution and falling debris, the total death toll in the city rose to 10.

Several parts of Bengaluru, including MG Road, Whitefield, Indiranagar, and Koramangala, witnessed heavy rainfall along with strong winds.

The sudden downpour led to severe waterlogging on roads, causing long traffic jams during peak office hours.

Commuters faced major inconvenience as vehicles moved slowly through flooded streets, while several trees were uprooted in different parts of the city.

Power disruptions were also reported in some residential areas.

The weather department has forecast more rain and thunderstorms in Bengaluru over the next 48 hours.

Residents have been advised to remain indoors during periods of strong winds and avoid standing near electric poles, trees, and old structures.
