India Signs Pax Silica Declaration to Strengthen Tech Supply Chains

NEW DELHI: India has officially joined the Pax Silica Declaration at the India AI Impact Summit, enhancing cooperation in technology and supply chains with the United States. This strategic alliance aims to secure critical minerals and semiconductor supply chains. By joining, India strengthens its global tech standing while enhancing its partnership with the US.

NEW DELHI: India has officially entered the Pax Silica Declaration at the India AI Impact Summit, a significant move that bolsters its alignment with the United States in the realm of technology and supply chain security. This initiative, introduced in December 2025, aims to fortify the global supply chain for critical minerals and semiconductors, while decreasing dependence on non-aligned nations.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, highlighted the importance of the declaration during the summit, stating, “Pax Silica focuses on making sure that the supply chains are safe and secure and encourages greater commercial partnerships across key technologies.” The initiative widens its net to include not only the United States but also allies like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and several other trusted nations, all in a quest to create a seamless ecosystem for innovation spanning from raw materials to artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The Pax Silica declaration aims to establish a shared vision of economic and technological cooperation while recognizing that a reliable supply chain is vital to mutual economic security. AI is viewed as a "transformative force," necessitating trusted systems to foster long-term prosperity. With increasingly intertwined sectors, advanced AI systems depend heavily on robust computing infrastructures, which in turn relies on the availability of semiconductors emanating from a steady supply of critical minerals.

India's accession to the Pax Silica initiative grants it an influential role in shaping the future economic landscape associated with AI and semiconductors. With its burgeoning technology sector and geographic advantage, India enhances the alliance's credibility and potential benefits. The advantages for India are significant: improved access to critical minerals and advanced chips, alignment with leading economies in AI, and strengthened ties with the US, crucial as it pursues trade negotiations.

US Ambassador Sergio Gor emphasized the initiative's strategic importance, stating, “A reliable supply chain is essential to mutual economic security.” This collaboration seeks to design a new phase of globalization centered around trusted partnerships in high-powered technological sectors, marking a vital moment in India-US relations and global technology cooperation.
