Modi Emphasizes Union Budget 2026 as Key to India's Development Aspirations

DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has characterized Union Budget 2026 as a pivotal moment for India's ambition to become a developed nation. In an interview, he emphasized that the budget reflects long-term planning and national confidence, incorporating reforms aimed at sustainable growth and public participation. Modi pointed to India’s demographic advantage and global partnerships as key factors for future prosperity.

DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described Budget 2026 as a defining milestone in India’s long-term transformation, asserting that it reflects the country’s “yearning” to become a developed nation rather than a response to immediate pressures. In an exclusive interview with news agency PTI, Modi stated that the Budget should not be viewed as a “now or never” exercise but as a product of sustained preparation and confidence.

“This is not a 'now or never' moment born out of compulsion. It is a 'we are ready' moment born out of preparation and inspiration. This Budget reflects this yearning to become a developed nation,” he remarked. Modi emphasized that the Union Budget has never been a mere financial ledger, but a strategy-driven document that builds on previous reforms.

Recalling his previous calls for urgency, Modi indicated that the government’s internal resolve has evolved into a national mission. “Today, that sense of urgency has become a national conviction, a whole-of-society resolve,” he underscored, highlighting a newfound confidence in the nation. He noted that India now stands at a historic juncture in the global order, where various countries seek partnerships in trade and innovation.

The Prime Minister also pointed out the demographic dividend of India’s youthful population as a crucial driver for future growth. He argued that broad initiatives in sectors such as space exploration and start-ups are clear indications of the nation’s advancing capabilities. Moreover, the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability, low inflation, and executing structural reforms was highlighted as vital to long-term progress.

Modi concluded by framing Budget 2026 as the first budget of the second quarter of the 21st century, stating that current decisions will lay the groundwork for India's future by 2047. “This Budget represents the next level in this journey, imparting momentum to our 'Reform Express' and preparing our youth for the opportunities of a rapidly changing world,” he affirmed.
