PATNA: Nitish Kumar announced on Thursday that he will contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls, effectively concluding his record-breaking tenure as the Chief Minister of Bihar. This significant decision marks a turning point in Bihar's political landscape, paving the way for new leadership following the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) noteworthy victory in the 2025 assembly elections.

In an emotional statement reflecting on his two decades in office, Kumar expressed profound gratitude to the residents of Bihar for their unwavering support. He shared, "From the very beginning of my parliamentary journey, there has been a desire in my heart to become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament." He reassured his constituents of his commitment to continue working toward a prosperous Bihar, stating, "My resolve to work together with you remains steadfast."

With Kumar stepping aside, speculation has heightened that a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader will assume the Chief Minister's role. This potential shift could be groundbreaking, as Bihar stands out as the only state in the Hindi heartland where the BJP has yet to secure the chief ministerial position.
