HYDERABAD: Tensions surged in Kamareddy on Saturday when the police placed BJP MLA K. Venkataramana Reddy under house arrest, thereby barring him from participating in a scheduled debate at Shishu Mandir regarding the contentious Arora land issue. The intervention led to a volatile situation, as enraged BJP supporters retaliated by vandalizing and setting fire to the SUV of a former sarpanch, Mahender Reddy.

Authorities attempted to manage the unrest by dispersing both BJP and Congress activists, but the atmosphere was charged, with allegations flying between Reddy and Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir concerning land disputes. Reddy, undeterred, had accepted a challenge to discuss the matter publicly at the Shishu Mandir, heightening the stakes.

As the MLA prepared to leave for the debate, police arrived at his residence to enforce the house arrest. Reddy, persistent in his appeal for police permission to leave, was met with resistance. In addition to restraining Reddy, law enforcement took several Congress supporters into preventive custody, further reflecting the authorities' concerns over potential law and order breaches.
