CHENNAI: In a significant political move, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and expelled AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam officially joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Friday, with the ceremony witnessing the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. This development marks a pivotal shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, hinting at a potential realignment ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

The meeting took place at the Assembly premises, where Panneerselvam greeted Stalin while acknowledging the completion of five years in the current leadership. "The achievements of the Chief Minister are deeply imprinted in the minds of the people based on the five-year good governance. The DMK has a chance to come back to power," stated Panneerselvam, who previously faced a power struggle within the AIADMK. His comments underscore the potential strengths of the DMK as they prepare for future contests.

Panneerselvam's departure from the AIADMK comes after a series of setbacks, including his expulsion from the party for alleged "anti-party" activities in July 2022. The party's general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, has firmly rejected the idea of Panneerselvam rejoining the AIADMK, emphasizing that there is “no place for him in the party.” The backdrop of this political drama has been fraught with tensions since the passing of party leader J.
