AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly's Budget Session commenced on Wednesday, featuring a speech from Governor Justice S. Abdul Nazeer that outlined the coalition government’s commitment to long-term development and welfare. However, the event was marred by noisy protests from members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), who staged a walkout in response to the Governor’s address, objecting to the government's policies.
In his address, Governor Nazeer sought to reassure citizens of the government’s dedication to people-centric welfare. While highlighting achievements of the previous government from 2014 to 2019, he acknowledged the systemic governance failures that disrupted progress after the 2019 change. He assured that the current coalition government is focused on steering the state toward sustained progress, reviving critical infrastructure, and prioritizing power and irrigation sectors.
The Governor spotlighted the ‘Swarna Andhra 2047’ vision, under which the state aims to establish a Rs 308 lakh crore economy and achieve a per capita income of Rs 55 lakh by the centenary of India's independence. He introduced 10 guiding principles aimed at balancing developmental needs with welfare projects, stressing the need for sustainable growth that enhances wealth across diverse communities.
Moreover, Governor Nazeer emphasized the introduction of digital mechanisms to support weaker sections, announcing the operational status of 205 Anna Canteens aimed at providing affordable meals to the impoverished population. He also discussed the ambitious plans for universal health coverage, housing for all, and initiatives targeting tribal and minority welfare.
In light of today's developments, the Governor expressed optimism about transforming Andhra Pradesh into an Information Technology hub and progressively developing micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities for youth and tackling substance abuse, all while integrating modern technologies into the state's growth strategy.
