KOLKATA: Following a significant voter turnout in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah confidently proclaimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure at least 110 of the 154 contested seats. At a press conference held on Friday, Shah expressed optimism about the BJP's performance, claiming that the overwhelming participation illustrated a clear message from the electorate.

“From the feedback we have received, the people of Bengal have decided their future in the first phase itself. This land has chosen development under the leadership of Narendra Modi. The voter turnout in the first phase has revealed that Didi is leaving, and the BJP is going to come to power,” added Shah, referring to Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, whom he labeled as "Didi."

With an impressive voter turnout of approximately 92.35% recorded by 11 pm on Thursday, Shah stressed the record-breaking level of engagement in the election process. For the first time since the 2011 Assembly elections, an estimated 33.2 million votes were cast in the first phase, making it a historic moment for these constituencies.

Highlighting the implications of the results, Shah articulated a broader narrative of transformation within West Bengal politics, stating, “This means we’ll get an absolute majority after phase two. The shift is one from fear to trust.” He articulated the BJP's commitment to improving women's safety, asserting that their first priority will be to ensure a secure environment for women throughout the state.
