NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed strong condemnation over Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan's recent comments suggesting that the situation in Venezuela could mirror what might happen in India. Chavan’s remark, made while discussing U.S. tariffs on India, provoked an uproar, calling into question the stability and independence of Indian leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari took to social media to criticize Chavan, stating, “Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan shamelessly comparing India’s situation with Venezuela shows a clear anti-India mindset.” Bhandari's comments aimed to emphasize the BJP’s stance against what they consider damaging rhetoric from the Opposition.

In a clip that circulated widely, Chavan was seen questioning, “Will Mr. Trump kidnap our Prime Minister?” His comments were in reference to recent events where U.S. President Donald Trump announced the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Chavan's remarks were quickly met with backlash from several quarters, including former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, SP Vaid, who demanded to know, “Why didn’t your head hang in shame before saying this?”
