Trisha Denounces BJP Leader's Crass Comment

CHENNAI: Tamil actor Trisha Krishnan condemned BJP leader Nainar Nagenthran's inappropriate remarks about her. In a statement, she emphasized her political neutrality and called for respect in public discourse. Criticism against Nagenthran's comments continues to grow among various political leaders.

CHENNAI: Tamil actor Trisha Krishnan has publicly condemned the “distasteful and inappropriate remark” made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nainar Nagenthran, which has sparked significant controversy on social media. The statement, released on February 16, 2026, comes after Nagenthran's comment suggested actor Vijay should “come out of Trisha's house to gain experience” during a press interaction on February 13.

While Trisha did not name anyone directly in her response, her legal counsel presented a firm assertion of her political neutrality, stating, “My client never expected that such distasteful and inappropriate remark would be made by a person holding a high stature in the State’s political space.” It clarified that Trisha is not affiliated with any political party and echoed her longstanding stance of remaining neutral regarding political issues.

Moreover, Trisha emphasized the importance of keeping personal lives out of public discourse. "Personal lives should never be made the subject of public commentary or discourse, and it is expected that persons holding high positions maintain responsibility and equanimity in public discourse," her statement read. This issue has not only concerned Trisha but has also drawn widespread condemnation from political figures across Tamil Nadu, including DMK MPs and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee chief K. Selvaperunthagai.

Nainar Nagenthran's comment was met with backlash that reflects a growing sentiment among the public and political leaders that disrespectful remarks have no place in political dialogue. The incident raises questions about the decorum expected from political leaders and how results from personal attacks can reverberate widely, especially in the age of social media.

As the criticism mounts, the implications of Nagenthran's remarks may pose challenges not only for his political standing but also for the broader political environment in Tamil Nadu, where celebrity involvement in politics often intertwines with the electorate's sentiment.
