ADEN: The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen has accused the United Arab Emirates of facilitating the escape of a prominent separatist leader, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, in an operation that reveals growing tensions between these Gulf allies. The coalition alleged that al-Zubaidi—head of a UAE-backed southern separatist group—was smuggled out by boat to Somaliland and then flown to Abu Dhabi, just as Saudi-backed forces made significant advances toward the port city of Aden.

Al-Zubaidi's departure comes at a critical juncture in the conflict, with the separatists, known as the Southern Transitional Council (STC), having recently captured significant territory in southern Yemen, notably the strategic Aden area.
