NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted the successful outcomes of a decade-long initiative in defence reforms during the execution of Operation Sindoor. Speaking with reporters, he affirmed that India's elevated global stance necessitates a persistent state of preparedness against evolving security threats. Modi stressed that modernization of the defence sector is imperative to maintain this readiness.

In his remarks, Modi pointed to the unprecedented allocation of Rs 7.85 lakh crore in the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2026-27, marking a 15% increase from the previous budgetary framework. This financial commitment, he stated, reflects the government's unwavering resolve since the onset of his administration to fortify the nation's defence capabilities. He characterized this budget as a historic move toward empowering the armed forces with indigenous innovations and technologies.

Additionally, the Prime Minister underscored the transformations initiated under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government's regime, which has prioritized modernisation and self-reliance. Modi expressed confidence that these efforts have led to increased domestic defence production and exports. He made a pointed reference to previous administrations, suggesting that they failed to effectively manage defence resources and policies. He cited his government’s recent achievements, such as the long-standing demand for One Rank One Pension (OROP), reinforcing a narrative of accountability and progress in India's defence sector.
